Our Elders and 49 years!

Wow!  49 years - where does the time go?  As usual Doug came through with the sentimentality that makes each anniversary special.

The day was busy with Zone meetings in Macon, and then, in spite of our preparation - our worst lesson so far.  We celebrated anyway with this beautiful plant to brighten up our apartment and our lives; and we licked our wounds by eating ice cream at the Dairy Queen on our way home.

In spite of the lesson, the Sister we were teaching agreed to come to a Relief Society activity with me - which she did - her first time, and also come to the Women's Conference with me next weekend.  I am hoping she will get acquainted with enough of the sisters that it will be easier for her to come on her own when we are transferred.

We realize once again how fortunate we are to have this privilege of serving together for many reasons, but today we were thinking of the blessing of being cancer free.

We have spent time with two families this week - one who lost their father not too long ago from pancreatic cancer, and another where the husband was just diagnosed with Lymphoma.  The latter family we came across quite by accident.  Finding the husband (not a member) was very ill and had been in and out of the hospital, we asked if they would like to have the Priesthood come and give him a blessing.  They have not come to church for many years, but recognized the power of a blessing coupled with everyone's faith.  Doug located one of the old ward stalwarts who happened to be the wife's uncle, to go with him to give the blessing.  It is interesting to see how things all work together resulting in simple miracles from our Heavenly Father.

As promised, here is the picture of our current Young Elders, outside our church building in Cochran where we have our District meetings.  Elder Brownlow (on the left) is finishing up his mission before Christmas this year.  Elder Williams has been out for a year and a few months,  but he has just come to Dublin, and is our District Leader.  He is quiet and spiritual, but has a good sense of humor, and somehow manages his 6 foot 8 inch frame without seeming awkward.  Transfers are coming up in another week.  We hope to keep them both for a while longer.
