We have never been to Milledgeville, as it was out of our district area, but we now have permission to talk to their Bishop, and get things rolling for finding a place to live there.
We are adding so many new apartments across the mission, that our housing coordinator can't get everything set up, so we will probably handle our own arrangements in coordination with the mission office, and the ward of course.
We are not surprised about the transfer, but thought it might not come until the new President arrived in July. I guess now, we can be up and working when the changeover happens.
Milledgeville was once the State Capital from 1804 to 1868, but after the Civil war, with the loss of slave labor, and the demolition of many of the cotton plantations, it fell from prosperity, and the Capital was moved to Atlanta in the rebuilding of the South.

Milledgeville is about the same size as Dublin racially split with half black, half white. We understand that they have a new Krogers and a Walmart, so we should be OK.
The Stake President told us that the church has been in Milledgeville for a long time, but with the downturn of the economy, in recent years, many businesses have folded in the area, and they have lost a lot of good families. The attendance has dropped by 60 or so, and there is much rebuilding needed. I think the ward includes three counties. It sounds like just the place for us to go to work!
We can't imagine leaving all our friends here in Dublin, but in many ways we are at a good leaving time, and our Mission President said, we could come back and see some of our sweet older friends if we thought they needed our continuing support.

Found it! Right in the middle of the state. Good luck with moving all your things. Why is change inevitable once we're comfortable in our surroundings? Love you guys, you're always in our prayers and we can feel your love from across the country.
I can't believe you're being transferred -- I mean, obviously it makes sense since you're missionaries. It just seems like you moved to Dublin, and that's where you'll be until you come back here. Those people in your new area are so lucky to have you movin' to their hometown. I love you both and am proud of how hard you're working. The kids love telling people that you're on a mission.
How's the apartment hunt coming? It was fun to read a little about how Milledgeville was once the State Capital. The old Governor's Mansion is pretty impressive. Janay is right. the people in your new area are lucky to have you! And it will be fun to be in a new place and dig in and find the people who have drifted away for one reason or another.
We had the missionaries over for dinner tonight. One of them, Elder Farr, told us his older brother is serving in the Atlanta, Georgia mission right now! We thought we would see if you happen to know him. Do you? An Elder Farr?
