Missionary Experiences
Kathy Jo
We are enjoying our association with Kathy Jo and her family of three. The children come to meetings as they find ways with their teachers. Kathy wants to come we think, but hasn't quite made the move yet, and she has no transportation. She is the one who came with us to the Stake Relief Society Women's Conference
Each week we teach a lesson for the two younger children, 5 and 9, based on the missionary discussions and the baptism preparation lessons in Primary, since they miss them. Then, because she requested it, we read the B of M with Kathy and the older daughter (15). We try to take Gospel principles from whatever chapter we are reading, so we can have a good discussion. We are on the Isaiah chapters in 2 Nephi now, so we're having to work a bit harder to make it simple enough.
The daughter is trying to do home study Seminary - B of M. Have any of you seen that manual? There isn't much interesting or inviting about it. No pictures or charts. Even the spacing seems formidable. I was sure it must be from the 50s or 60s or something, but no! - It seems to be the only version. Even as adults it would be hard to find it motivating. I guess you have to really want to learn. She doesn't have a ride, and often needs to help get siblings on the bus, when her Mother isn't feeling well, so she thought she would try it.
